IOWA UPDATE

Julie and Scott are quite busy, so I thought I'd post this update. They have been in Iowa a little less than three weeks. They seem to really like it there and think the people are very friendly and welcoming. Scott got a desk job in Ft. Dodge, about 40 minutes away with a trucking company dispatching the drivers and their loads (I think that is correct - - close anyway). Julie has a part-time job as City Deputy Clerk. I think she will be a Jill of all trades. She takes the money for utilities - and lots of people there still pay in cash - -she wrote a press release, she helps the mayor just to name a few. She only wants to work part-time and then do some selling on E-Bay.

They have started doing their thing to the house which includes Scott replacing a lot of porch floor boards and Julie has started removing 9 layers of wall paper from the bedroom walls!

Henry Unga Farewell

We had the opportunity to attend the mission farewell of Henry Unga (my cousin Becky Chai Sitake's son). It was quite an experience, in that it was held in a Tongan Ward in Orem, Utah. When we walked in, we noticed a bunch of headphones on the back table. I assumed they were for translating into Tongan so some of the older members who maybe hadn't had a chance to learn English would be able to understand the proceedings. Wrong! They were for us so we could follow the proceedings, which were largely in Tongan.

One other observation of a Tongan ward. Those people can sing! We sang from Tongan hymnbooks two hymns that I had never heard before. It appears that our LDS Tongan hymnbook allows for some variety, which I think is pretty cool. These hymns were sung very enthusiastically, with the women going one direction and the men usually catching up in a spirited way from the rear. I also noticed that the men were unconstrained by the actual notes that were written on the page. It sounds like over the years, they have discovered improvements to the notes as written and are not terribly concerned with singing "within the lines."

Henry did a great job on his talk. It was not an easy feat, especially because the power was out, so he had to speak to a packed congregation that extended well into the cultural hall without the benefit of artificial amplification. Just the right blend of humor and spirituality and volume. He'll be a fine missionary.

The night before, we went to a reception at Becky and Tom's house. Saw lots of family and friends. Plus we ate a lot of food. Had a great time.

It was nice to share this special time with the Sitake family.

NEWS FLASH-RECENTLY RETURNED MISSIONARY VISITS G & G AGLE

Recently returned missionary, Mark Sanders is spending a week in So Cal thanks to his Aunt Marie, who lives in Aliso Veijo and works in Pasadena. She was willing to let him have a day with his brother Derek in San Diego where they played a round of golf and took in a Padres ballgame; score 4-2 with the Padres winning. Then it was a short evening and morning at the Grandparents house where he was properly fed and given a good night's rest. In the morning Mark wanted to play a game of Rummy being certain he could beat the old folks, but Grandpa came through with a resounding win! Marie picked him up this morning and they are off to spend a few days exploring, checking out E-Bay, hitting a few buckets of balls and whatever else strikes their fancy. Mark will return to the Provo area to attend BYU where his classes begin next Tuesday.

Check out the mice, Travis, Ryan & Nathan

Travis' 5th birthday at Disneyland

This one took even more work. It was faded to almost nothing.

This is a slide that is very faded and in poor condition. I've been trying to improve it using our new Photoshop 4.0. If you think it doesn't look too great, you should see the original!

Report on Julie and Scott

said...

Julie & Scott's move went pretty well. They got everything (well just about everything) loaded on the truck, with the help of a couple of hired hands. The drive to Iowa was long and tiring, but all things considered, it went very well. At their request, the realtor had hired three men and a very strong lady to help them unload. It was done it two hours. They were grateful for the help as it was hard getting things up to the attic room and down to the basement.

As of today, Julie has signed papers, Scott has interviewed for a job he had applied for a couple of weeks ago, they have bought a washer, dryer and stove and had them delivered and installed. They love taking walks on the property especially down by the stream which runs completely through their property. They have met some neighbors including a 10 year old boy who baked them a loaf of bread and brought it over! Ruth and Adam drove out today to lend a hand and Adam will probably have a chance to get acquainted with that boy. Julie sounds very happy and upbeat. I hope when she gets her computer up and running she will join us and give us a report.

Congratulations, Carol on adding a comment.

Daniel and the Lions

Just wanted to share a sneak peek at the current version of the "Daniel and the Lions" graphic that our new marketing guru Brandon has been working on. It's pretty fun.

We're still feverishly working on it to get it ready for its 9/22 premiere date (all are invited) at Thanksgiving Point. It comes out officially on 9/26.

"It's Working"

Just making sure that everything transfered to the new computer (Thanks Erik!). And since its done, he now can work on his scripts.

First things first you know.

Dennis At Work Dad's Computer

Here's Dennis trying to add the old programs to the new computer. He Did it!

I am happy to be invited into the Agle Family Blog! And I accept!!! Thanks to my lovely wife for setting this up and to Dennis for showing her how. Hope all of those invited will join and use it.

Dad

I'm in!

Looking forward to participating with all the family members. I think this will be a different experience than the MyFamily experience, which seemed like it became mostly just pictures (which I loved). But I'd also love to hear from people. What's going on in your lives. Fond memories, etc. Of course, I'd love to see pictures included as well. I'll try to do my part to post something every now and then. Let's give it a shot.

Welcome to the Agle Family Blog Site. Dennis jr. has set this up and I am in the learning process of how it all works. It won't be as easy as "MyFamily" but it might meet our needs in a better way. Dennis says that as people become more comfortable with "blogging", it will become more user friendly.

Our subscription to "MyFamily" is ending August 26th and I have opted to not renew. This will be the new site. You will be able to add pictures, comments, etc.
